May 2, 2008

Good morning from David and Melissa. It is a nice sunny Saturday here in Milwaukee where Caden Marshall's day is off to a less than stellar start.

Caden Marshall must have heard someone say the "H" word because he had a horrible night feeding. He has just been sleeping non-stop and kind of out of it till about 30 minutes ago. He did on average 50cc's during his overnight feedings and would not even accept his 6am feeding. The nurse got 20cc's in at 8:15 and that was it. We are going to feed him again at 11AM however the doctors are being cautious and have ordered a set of labs done. The doctor also ordered that Caden be reconnected to the renal saturation monitor. Hopefully he will recover and have a great day. He is showing signs of it as you will see in the video clip below. We took this clip at about 10:45AM

As far as the "H" word, we still dont know. They are looking at Monday but we will wait for the labs to come back and the feeding to pick up before we can get a landing pattern from the tower. We are staying optimistic with just a tiny bit of pessimism (just a tiny bit).

Side note.... Melissa and I sit up here in Milwaukee and live in our own little world at times. That world seems to stand still for us as we are so focused on our immediate family and the health of Caden Marshall. However this week we received a reminder, in the form of sad news, that the world does in fact go on around us. One of my best friends lost his father this week. It hurts my heart that we can not be there physically to support him and his family as he lays his father to rest. I am sorry pal. Last night Melissa and I asked God to welcome home this man and give strength to those closest to him. Personal note: I used to love messing with my buddies dad when I was a teenager and we would always give each other a hard time arguing just for the sake of the banter. I will remember his dad for his unfiltered candor and warm greetings the times I have seen him over the last 25 years.

Prayers for Plainfield.

David & Melissa

  1. David,
Sorry to hear the loss of your dear friend's dad. We are never wanting to give up someone we love.
Caden did look quite animated in his 2nd video
( I just love them and play them often!). He must get his rowdiness from you for I do not recall Melissa being anything but quiet and lady-like (Ha!). Seriously, his actions bring a large smile to my face and maybe even a tear to my eyes! Love you all!

  9. Hello Caden-
Today is Saturday May 2nd and it was a warm and sunny day. Today is also the day for an annual race for three-year-old horses; held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky…which is known as the Kentucky Derby.
The first ever Kentucky Derby was held 135 years ago, on May 17, 1875, the horse, Aristides, and his rider, Oliver Lewis, crossed the finish line ahead of the rest of the field.
The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three year-old thoroughbred horses, held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, on the first Saturday in May. The race is known in the United States as "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports" for its approximate duration, and is also called "The Run for the Roses" for the blanket of roses draped over the winner. It is the first leg of the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.
I also wanted to let you know that I loved your video…hey who taught you all of those cool dance moves...I’m guessing it was your mommy?
    Good night Caden.

  12. Hello Caden-
Today is Sunday May 3rd and it is another beautiful day. I hope that you had a better eating day today…we all have a bad day every once in awhile.
Well last night the Bulls season came to an end when the Celtics beat them 109-99. They really played a great series. The Hawks on the other hand beat the Canuks 6-3 and that series is now ties at a game apiece.
And finally, “Mine That Bird” won the Kentucky Derby yesterday and know has a chance of winning the Triple Crown.
The Triple Crown is a title won by a horse that can win the Kentucky Derby, the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness.
No horse has won the Triple Crown since “Affirmed” did it in 1978.
Horseracing’s Triple Crown is often called the toughest challenge in sports and it has hundreds of failures to back up that claim. I guess we will see if “Mine That Bird” can do it this year.
    Good night Caden.

  17. Good morning Caden-
Today is Monday March 4th and it is a beautiful spring day.
For the past 24 years, communities across the country have set aside the first full week of May, with a special emphasis on Tuesday, National Teacher Day, to show their teachers just how important they are.
National Teacher Day is celebrated on the first Tuesday of the first full week in May. Its origins date back to 1944 when an Arkansas school teacher; Mattye Whyte Woodridge, brought her desire for a national day of recognition of teachers to political and educational leaders. Finally, in 1953, she wrote a letter to Eleanor Roosevelt, who promptly persuaded Congress to declare a National Teacher Day...and in 1980 Congress declared March 7 as National Teacher's Day. But, it was declared as National Teacher's Day for that year only. However, it continued to be recognized by the National Education Association; (NEA), on the 1st Tuesday in March.
It wasn’t until 1985 when the Parents Teacher Association; (PTA), declared the first full week in May, Teacher Appreciation Week, with National Teacher day on that Tuesday.
So Caden, you understand that this means you need to be extra nice and keep down all of your feedings, for your mommy this week, since she is a teacher…got it?
    Have a wonderful day Caden
