April 30, 2009

Hi everyone. Doctors are still monitoring Caden. They want to continue to monitor his food intake along with that new heart medication Captipril. We continue to be hopeful in Caden's progress and us going home sometime early next week. The discharge for Caden is quite lengthy. They want to ensure we both feel comfortable with everything before they send us on our way. Some of the things we have done is CPR, the home monitoring program inclduing checking his weight in kilograms, and his oxygen saturations which we will be doing daily and reporting the numbers into CHW. Walgreens delievered the portable canister of oxygen for Caden's travel home until we arrive at our house in Cary where Walgreens will meet us to set up the house for his oxygen needs. We have received formulas on how to increase the calorie content of the breastmilk/formula. Since Caden's heart has to work so hard while he is eating (his heart increases to the same it would you/I if we went running). The goal is to use less energy to eat so he will continue to gain weight. Increasing the calorie content is the easiest way to accomphlish this. We are waiting on getting his medications from Walgreens (some have to be compounded so it takes longer and only certain pharmacies do the compounding). Caden also has to do a carseat trial where he will sit in his carseat in the hospital all hooked up to the monitors for the same duration of time he would be in the car for the ride home. We are very excited about how things are progressing, but we also understand Caden is the one guiding us at this point. Keep praying!!

That is all for now...David just arrived to Milwaukee so I'm going to enjoy having him back with me and watch him feed our son.

Goodnight.
Love,
Melissa and David

  11. Good Morning Caden-
Today is Friday May 1st and there is a slight overcast but the sun seems like it wants to finally break through.
May is one of the most beautiful months of the year. Usually the snow and ice are gone and the hot temperatures are slowly starting to arrive. The first garden begins to sprout in May. The wild flowers are blooming, and the trees and grasses have turned green. Many birds have also started building their nests, and mother birds are sitting on the eggs, waiting for them to hatch.
So I am very happy to hear that everything seems to be falling into place and that you may be going “H” very soon. Let’s keep staying focused until this day actually comes…How exciting this will be!
And speaking of exciting, last night was awesome! The Bulls beat the Boston Celtics 128-127 in triple overtime Thursday night to even the first-round series and force a deciding game 7.
Thursday's triple-overtime cliffhanger marked the seventh extra period the Bulls and Celtics have played, setting a NBA record for overtimes in a single series. Oddly enough, the Boston Celtics have been involved in the previous records as well; in 1957 the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks had 4 extra periods which tied the record which was originally set in 1953 when the Celtics had 4 extra period games against the Washington Nationals…very strange.
The Blackhawks had a very exciting game as well…but they were not as fortunate and lost the game 5-3.
    Have a wonderful day Caden.
