July 1, 2009

Hey all. David here on Wednesday night. I thought I would post quickly to let you know that everything is great in the Smith house. Caden has fed like a champ the last couple of days until today. He is lagging a bit today but we are sure he is going to pick it up again tomorrow. Not really much to report other than we are very happy and enjoying our time together. I thought I would use the rest of the post to talk about Meatball #2.

Meatball number two is my nephew Carson. He is number two because out of the three blood nephews I have he was born second. If you know me, I am close to my friends kids and love them like nephews as well and they are also meatballs however I never assigned them numbers. Okay back to Carson and the picture above.

When Melissa and I brought Caden to meet Meatballs 2 & 3 (Chase) and Uncle Keith, Carson presented us with a giant box of pop tabs. From what I understand this go getter kid pursued just about everyone to save their pop tabs so we can donate them to the Ronald McDonald house. I heard one story about how he saw his teacher drinking a soda one day so he brought in a paper cup, taped it to her desk, and asked if she could put her tabs in there! He rallied his school to gather all these pop tabs. I can't even imagine the total number but I know that the RMH will appreciate the work. Melissa and I appreciate it as well. It really touched us that Carson worked so hard to help the organization that helped Melissa and I so much. You rock Carson. Thank you.

Have a great night everyone and a safe 4th of July.
David and Melissa

  5. Good morning Caden-
Today is Thursday the 2nd which means the month of June has passes and it is now July. July is the seventh month of the year in our calendar and is one of the seven months with the length of 31 days. It is, on average, the warmest month in most of the Northern hemisphere (where it is the second month of summer) and the coldest month in much of the Southern hemisphere. July was renamed for Julius Caesar, who was born in that month. Previously, it was called Quintilis in Latin.
The birthstone for July is a red ruby and the astrological sign is that of Cancer:
Those born under the sign of Cancer, ruled by the mysterious Moon, are one of the zodiac's enigmas. Their element is water, their ruling planet is the moon and their symbol is the crab.
It is fair to say that most Cancers are a bundle of contradictions. Compassionate and caring with friends, family and lovers, yet they can cut to the bone with their jealous remarks and ever-changing moods.
Have a wonderful day at home Caden

  8. Good morning Caden-
Today is Saturday July 4th or better known as Independence Day:
Independence Day is more than a chance for family and friends throughout the country to gather for barbecues and fireworks displays, it is an annual celebration to commemorate the courage and faith of our founding fathers in their pursuit of liberty.
During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.
The holiday was first observed in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776, at which time the Declaration of Independence was read aloud, city bells rang, and bands played. It was not declared a legal holiday, however, until 1941.
Although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the Fourth of July holiday has been accepted as the official anniversary of U.S. independence and is celebrated in all states and territories of the U.S.

  11. Good morning Caden-
Today is Sunday July 5th and that means that your mommy & Daddy have been married for an entire year. Yes, it is their 1st wedding anniversary! And how incredible it must feel to be able to spend this time and celebrate this day, in their home and with you…truly amazing!
When 2 people, such as your mom & dad, decide to get married they need to plan a wedding:
A wedding is the ceremony in which two people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of wedding vows by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, rings, symbolic item, flowers), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure or leader; usually a priest. Special wedding clothes are often worn, and the ceremony is followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from Scripture or literature also may be incorporated into the ceremony.

  13. Good Morning Caden –
Today is Monday June 6th and I hope that you had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend.
History was made yesterday, in the Tennis world, at the Wimbledon Championship!
It has been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, which are; (The Austrialian Open, The French Open & The US Open), and the only one still played on the game's original surface, grass, which gave the game of lawn tennis its name. {Only 5 players have ever won all 4 grand slams: Fred Perry, Roy Emerson, Don Budge, Rod Laver and Andre Agassi}.
However, Wimbledon is not only the oldest tennis tournament in the world it is also considered to be the most prestigious one as well.
Yesterday, Roger Federer defeated Andy Roddick for his sixth Wimbledon championship. This has given Federer his record breaking 15th Grand Slam title…the old record was 14 titles and was held by Pete Sampras.
The match took 4 hours, 16 minutes, five sets and 77 games for Federer to secure the record Sunday in another epic Wimbledon final. Federer served a career-high 50 aces and overcame the resilient Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 –this marks the longest match and longest fifth set in Grand Slam final history.
Roger Federer has now regained the No. 1 ranking and his reputation has enhanced as perhaps the greatest player in tennis history.
Have a wonderful day at home Caden
