July 6, 2009

Hi family and friends ~ It's been awhile since we posted so I thought I'd drop a quick line or two to tell you we are all doing great. Caden is almost 12 pounds now! He is interacting a lot more, and his new thing is giggling. It is so amazing what joy he brings to our life and how blessed we are to have him at home.

We had our last home health nurse visit this morning and everything looks great so she doesn't need to return. Now we are just awaiting an intake appointment from OT, PT, Speech, and Developmental Therapists. They are all coming out within the next couple of weeks to see how Caden is doing and if he is/will need any services to help him with his recovery.

As for me. Well, I'm still working on how to get all I want to accomphlish done in a day with so little sleep. I can say....I'm still working on that one. I'm also trying to get back into walking/jogging something I enjoyed doing pre-pregnancy. The c-section took me a bit longer to recover from than I thought so now that I'm feeling back to myself I'm ready to enjoy the running when I can find the energy to get out and go. My goal would be to get back into running races soon.

Thanks again for all your prayers and support to keep our boy home :-)

Love -
Melissa

  8. Good morning Caden-
Today is Tuesday July 7th and it is a beautiful summer day! I am so glad to hear that your recovery is progressing as planned and that everything seems to be going smoothly. That truly makes me happy!

Delicious, delectable, soothing and, yes, American; Chocolate was a New World discovery, one of the most sought-after treasures brought back to Europe from the brave new land across the Atlantic.
Christopher Columbus, in 1502, was the first European to run across the beans on his fourth voyage to the New World. However, Hernando Cortez introduced chocolate to Europe on this day back in 1550.
In 1528, he took some of the wondrous beans back to Charles V, his King. Cortez had a suspicion that if this bitter beverage were blended with cane sugar, not only would it be more agreeable to European tastes, but it could become quite the delicacy. He was right. The Spaniards mixed the beans with sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, clove, allspice, and cinnamon. The resulting concoction became the drink of the nobility - a secret Spain managed to keep from the rest of the world for almost 100 years.
However, cacao, from which chocolate is actually created, is said to have originated in the Amazon at least 4,000 years ago.
Have a wonderful day at home Caden.

  10. Good morning Caden-
Today is Wednesday July 8th and with everything going on I failed to mention another icon that passed away last week.
Farrah Leni Fawcett was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Corpus Christi Texas also died on June 25th. Farrah Fawcett was an American actress, a multiple Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee, in her illustrious career. However, Fawcett rose to international fame when she first appeared as private investigator, Jill Munroe, in the TV series Charlie's Angels in 1976.
Charlie's Angels was a television series about three women who work for a private investigation agency, and is one of the first shows to showcase women in roles traditionally reserved for men. The series was broadcast from 1976 to 1981 and was one of the most successful series of the 1970s.
Fawcett later appeared off-Broadway to the approval of critics and in highly rated television movies in roles often challenging (The Burning Bed, Nazi Hunter: The Beate Klarsfeld Story, Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story, Margaret Bourke-White) and sometimes unsympathetic (Small Sacrifices). Fawcett was also a pop culture figure whose hairstyle was emulated by millions of young women and whose poster sales broke records; (Within six months, the poster sold five million copies, outstripping the records of such previous sex symbols as Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe. It wound up selling a record breaking 12 million copies), making her an international sex symbol in the 1970s and 1980s. While her impact was particularly strong on the teens of the 1970s, her appeal spreads over multiple generations.

  13. Good morning Caden-
On this day Thursday July 9th, 12 years ago, Mike Tyson was banned from boxing for biting off a portion of Evander Holyfield’s ear!
Michael Gerard Tyson, also known as Malik Abdul Aziz,(born June 30, 1966) is a retired boxer. He was the undisputed heavyweight champion and remains the youngest man ever to win the WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight titles. He won the WBC title when he was only 20 years old. Throughout his career, Tyson became well-known for his ferocious and intimidating boxing style as well as his controversial behavior both inside and outside the ring.
Nicknamed "Kid Dynamite", "Iron Mike", and "The Baddest Man on the Planet", Tyson dominated the boxing world in the 80’s. He won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout, 12 of these knockouts happened in the first round. He unified the belts in the splintered heavyweight division and became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. Tyson lost his title, in shocking fashion, when he lost to an overwhelming underdog, James "Buster" Douglas in February 11, 1990, by a Knock Out in the 10th round.
In the early 90’s Tyson was involved in many legal disputes which ended with him having to serve 3 years in prison. He was finally released1995, when he then engaged in a series of comeback fights. He regained a portion of the heavyweight title, before losing it to Evander Holyfield in a 1996 fight by an 11th round TKO, and then lost another fight to Holyfield, in the infamous ear biting rematch, one year later. He is currently ranked #16 on Ring magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time.
Have a wonderful day at home Caden

  16. Good morning Caden-
Today is Friday July 10th and back in 1914 the Boston Red Sox purchased Babe Ruth from the Baltimore Orioles.
George Herman Ruth, Jr. (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948), also popularly known as "Babe Ruth", "The Bambino", and "The Sultan of Swat", was an American Major League baseball player from 1914–1935. Ruth is one of the greatest sports heroes of American culture. He was the first player to hit 60 home runs in one season (1927).
Unlike many power hitters, Ruth also hit for average: his .342 lifetime batting is tenth highest in baseball history, and in one season (1923) he hit .393, a Yankee record. His .690 career slugging percentage and 1,164 career on-base plus slugging (OPS) remain the major league records.
Ruth dominated in the era in which he played. He led the league in home runs during a season 12 times, slugging percentage 13 times, OPS, 13 times, runs scored eight times, and runs batted in (RBIs) six times. Each of those totals represents a modern record (and also an all-time record, except for RBIs). At the time of his retirement, his 714 home runs were not only the record, but that total was 336 more than the next closest player. He also finished with the most career walks (2,062), most career extra base hits (1,356), and he is still the only player to have a season with at least 200 hits and 150 walks. In 1936, Ruth became one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1969, he was named baseball's Greatest Player Ever in a ballot commemorating the 100th anniversary of professional baseball. In 1998, The Sporting News ranked Ruth Number 1 on the list of "Baseball's 100 Greatest Players." In 1999, baseball fans named Ruth to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.
