David here reporting that today has been a much better day for Caden Marshall. Much, much better! Yesterday was a day Melissa and I would love to, but won’t likely ever forget. I am glad yesterday is behind us and we will look forward being positive and hopeful. Today has been positive thus far and we hope to continue its momentum.

Caden has been comfortable today disturbed only by the removal of tubes and headaches that we were warned about. Today they removed two chest drains, his CVP line and his arterial line. Removing these tubes and lines are good indicators of his little body healing however it hurts him quite a bit during the removal as you could imagine. He is such a strong boy. Caden started eating orally like a champ today as well. He started by rocking out 120cc’s followed up by an 80cc session. This last feed he only too 45 but we are very happy he is off to a good start. Coming off of yesterday Melissa and I are very very pleased and quite relieved he bounced back so well.

Melissa and I appreciated your encouraging comments, phone calls, and such yesterday and today. Yesterday was a difficult one to say the least. Without our faith and your support I don’t know how well we would be doing.

David and Melissa

Thank you for taking time to keep us all up to date, especially when things were as frightening as they were for you guys yesterday. I'm sure it wasn't easy for you to write. I must say, I felt very guilty today, enjoying the nice weather and the day, knowing that you guys are dealing with such a tough situation. Positive thoughts going your way as they do every single day!!

  17. Hi! My name is Marcia, I am friends with Jill Turner (I was her roomate at EIU, Brittney Ridge #28- after you guys!) I got an email from Jill about you and your son. And checked this recently. And then I swear I heard you guys mentioned during the Cubs game the other day! Am I right? I am so glad to hear that Caden is doing much better today! He is sooooo cute! Seriously! Sooo cute! I have friends who have a daughter going through the same thing- only she is over a year old now, and is doing great! Prayers for you all! Take care and God Bless!

  18. As I read the update today, tears stream down my face. I know first-hand the valleys and rollercoaster you are speaking of! You don't know me, but know of my family in Southern Illinois. I have had the privilege of teaching with Grandma Rita at Washington. As our family has valleyed through a storm in our lives, we have stood firm in our faith in God. You too, have stood firm in your testimony and faith to God. Our family has held firm to a specific song, even now in the aftermath of the storm- Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns.
God holds Caden in His hands and is with you each and every step. I know at times, He may feel distant- but HE IS NOT! God is right there with you and listening to your prayers and prayers of many others.
I pray that you will experience a peace that passeth ALL understanding! Phillippians 4:7

  19. David and Melissa. You don't know me, but i go to church with your mom, Melissa. I keep up on the posts and pray for you all three. So sorry you went thru the terrible day yesterday. I truly believe God doesn't allow us to go thru more than we can withstand and I also truly believe HE has a mission for your family as you deal with and after you complete this ordeal you are going thru. Hang on to HIM; HE is there thru it all. That is another great song to cling to "Through it All". Praying for you all.

  20. Hi guys,

This is so great to get a good report on Caden. We have been praying like crazy over here and God is so good to all of us! Thank heavens Caden had a better day (that means Mom and Dad had a better day also! hee hee) Caden is certainly living up to his name. What an amazing little guy he is! So glad for the good news and that Caden is doing well.

  21. Melissa -

I am a frequent tearful reader of your blog. I've never posted a comment before because I can't seem to find the words. What you must be going through... I can't even imagine. Prayer and faith... I know those are the constants in this situation. Your husband seems like an amazing man. How lucky you are to have each other and this amazing little boy in your life. I will keep reading, crying, and praying
