Hey all. David here on Monday night. Today was a decent day for Caden Marshall. I say decent because he is very uncomfortable most of the time and the Tylenol and other pain meds are only helping him so much. He is experiencing what the doctors call "Glenn Headaches". Essentially, with the new physiology inside of him, the blood backs up a bit into his head creating pressure and pain. These headaches are common for kids that have an early Glenn operation and there is no immediate risk to him as a result. The headaches just need to run their course until his body adjusts. It takes a while for the pain to subside so he cries and you can tell by looking at him he really hurts. Outside of that he is doing okay. Saturdays events are very clear in our minds however he continues to improve so hopefully the events that took place will become a distant memory soon.
Caden is not eating as well as we would like however he is becoming himself again quickly. By "himself" I mean wide eyed and looking around. Before the Glenn he was full of smiles and some talking (you know what I mean). We are waiting for the big smiles and the talking to come back very soon. Our son is so very strong and he continues to fight. He has been through more than we would have ever imagined for him and he continues to impress us. We talk to him a lot and pray with him often. We know Caden and God both hear us.
Thank you for walking this road with us and your constant prayers that will get us H one day.
David and Melissa

Thought about you all day, Caden. Headaches are no fun, little guy. So sorry that today was not a great day because you definitely deserve one (or a million) of them. Hoping for tomorrow to bring better for you, and for Mom and Dad.
ReplyDeleteI know God gives us just what we need to make it through our most difficult times. I am confident he has given Caden and his wonderful parents the strength to get through this battle. Sending love and prayers from Marion!

Hearing your voices has a huge influence on him. He knows your there and hearing your voices helps him when he's in pain or not feeling himself. Keep up the chat!
ReplyDeleteDave and Melissa, I hope your ok. You had a rough weekend, but it sounds like your little boy is ready for 15 rounds with this condition!

Melissa and David,
ReplyDeleteI have tried to send a comment several times to let you now that I have been praying for Caden Marshall! Your mom (Rita) told me what I could do so I hope this goes through. You are in my thoughts and my prayers. Caden in a very special little boy. I read your blog every day. It is the closest thing to being there myself.
God bless all of you, Linda SMITH Duncan
I am so glad to see Caden's big, beautiful eyes. We are continuing to pray for each of you. We will specifically pray that Caden is comfortable which will give each of you a peace. I know you have to be physically and emotionally exhausted--just remember "I can do everything through him who gives me strength"-Philippians 4:13. God is there with you and I pray you feel his strength.

ReplyDeleteMorning Smith Family,
ReplyDeleteWe are glad to hear Caden is slowly returning back to his normal self. Feeling your touch, hearing your voice is very comforting to him and surely gives him strength. We pray for him to quickly bounce back. Remember to take care of yourselves in the process!! Sending big hugs & kisses. MJ, Tony & boys
Good morning Caden-
ReplyDeleteToday is Tuesday June 2nd and I wanted to say how proud I am of your tremendous spirit and drive that you are showing all of us. Such a small little body filled with strength and an unbelievable fighting attitude. You are an inspiration to so many people that truly love you. Please, continue to stay focused and let that medical team work their magic and you will be "H" for good.
Onto other things my little friend:
In Basketball; The Orlando Magic defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the Eastern Conference 4-2. They will be facing the Los Angeles Lakers, the Western Conference Champions, later this week.
At the rink, the Pittsburgh Penguins will try to rebound tonight after losing two games in two nights to the Detroit Redwings, putting them into a deep, deep hole from which only 1 team has previously escaped during the finals.
The only team to ever come back to win the Cup Finals after losing Games 1 and 2 on the road were the 1971 Montreal Canadians, when they rebounded to defeat, our own Chicago Blackhawks.
Have a wonderful day Caden
I'm so glad to hear Caden is doing OK. No need to go back to Saturday, it's in the past. Look only to the future with this remarkable little boy you have. I'm pryaing every day for H.

Hey guys! Sorry to hear of Caden's headaches. Nothing worse for parents when you know your child is hurting and there really isn't anything to do to console them. If it makes you feel any better, at least Caden won't remember any of this. That is one thing that John and I just talked about. How grateful we are that Allee didn't remember any of the things she had to go through. I know that probably sucks to hear that right now, but down the road you will be glad too.
ReplyDeleteThe recent picture of Caden is great!! He looks so good! I was happy to see that he didn't have the monitor on his forehead. That's another win, right? Rock on Caden! You keep winning all these battles, and soon, you will win the war!! Afterall Caden, you are a Little Warrior!!
Keep your chins up! Better days are coming! :o)
Love you all!
Christine
