May 14, 2009 - Extended Stay RMH room

Hi everyone. Today is off to a great start. Last night we got moved from our orginal room in the Ronald McDonald house to an extended stay room. You are moved to these rooms after you have been here for 60 days. The room is nice, a bit bigger than our last room, and has a MUCH nicer bed that doesn't sink to the floor :-) . These rooms are also off a different wing in the house that is more private. These extended stay rooms have a kitchen that we all share that is also a bit larger. I'm glad I caught up on my sleep last night in my new bed because tonight Dr. Nancy wants me to sleep in the hospital with Caden.

Caden has had another good day today. Dermatologists have come in the last 2 days and evaluated his little face and butt and prescriped some ointments so we are finally starting to see slow progress with his skin. Caden is eating well, his oxygen saturations are good, so now we are focusing on his blood pressure and the correct dosage of Captipril.

Nurse Julie snapped a few pics today of me giving Caden a bath. Actually he was soaking is little tush in an oatmeal Aveno bath to help soothe his blistered sore bottom. He loves the bath!! He could sit in that little pink hospital tub till he turned into a prune if I let him. I can't wait till David and I can give him a real bath at home.

Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers!

Love -
Melissa

Caden looks like such a big boy. Looks like he will be growing out of the pink basin soon and you will need to bring in a regular bath :)
Hopefully his bootie will clear up soon.

  2. Melissa, I love the picture of Caden in the pink tub! He ia a doll and growing each day. We left after the storm and came home Monday. Our street got power Wed.night. You hear the sound of chain saws all day but progress is being made. Can't wait to hear your mother's stories of Eric's graduation. Take care, Gloria

  3. Melissa!
Canden's pictures made my day! He is SO cute! It is great to see him 'unattached'! I see that 'sunshine' in your face in the picture with Caden. It is so good to see it back again!
As I always say, "You love your children so much, it hurts!"

  4. Hi Melissa, One of the best things about our having power again is being able to read and see how Caden is progressing! I missed my daily updates! I'm glad you have a bigger room and comfy bed. Caden just is growing so, he is a handsome boy. Keeping you in my prayers. Jane

  5. Hi guys!! Love the top picture of Caden!! He looks like a big flirt, just like his daddy! :o) I bet he has all the nurses wrapped around his little pinky!! I also love his spiffy new outfit! Too cute!!

I am glad to hear that the doctors are finding something to give Caden's little bum some relief! I bet he is going to have a ball when he can have a real bath in Cary! He will be kicking his arms and legs and squealing with delight! What fun you three will have!!

Glad to hear that your accommodations have gotten a little better for you and David. Sounds like they do their very best to make things nice for you. I'm sure they are not as good as that place on Danbury, but at least you have a place to lay your heads every night that is close to your son!!

Sending positive thoughts your way everyday,
    Christine

  8. Good morning Caden-
Today is Friday May 15th and once again there is a slight overcast, showers and it is a bit colder. This spring weather just doesn’t know what it wants to do these days. I am very pleased to see that you are maintaining your levels in check and that you are continuing to eat more consistently. So oatmeal on your butt huh…so how did that feel? Sounds pretty tempting…I may have to give it a try.
Well, the Blackhawks finally know who their opponent is going to be in the Western Conference Finals. They will be facing the Detroit Redwings in this 7 game showdown, which will start on Sunday. The winner of this series will advance to the Stanley Cup and they will face the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals, which will be either the Carolina Hurricanes or the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Blackhawks and Redwings have played against each other over 700 times, dating all the way back to November 24, 1926; making this the oldest rivalry in the NHL. Let’s hope the Blackhawks can step up to this challenge.
    Have a wonderful day Caden

  11. Caden is so busting out of that tub. That means he is growing, which means eating good. I hope his little butt is healing well. He looks so adorable with nothing on his face. He is a lady killer, just like his dad was(HAHA). Glad to hear you are sleeping better in your new place. Hoping soon you will be sleeping in your own bed(I'm sure with caden next to you). Prayers for strength and health from Plainfield. Love Ya

  12. Glad to see the updates on Caden again. Southern Illinois may have been without power but we were still praying for Caden every day. What great pictures and what a difference a week makes, he seems to have changed so much. We will keep the prayers going. Wishing you all the best. Glad your first Mother's Day was a good one.
