April 6, 2009

Hi Everyone ~ Today was a pretty good day. As I’m typing this my two favorite CUB fans, David and Caden, are watching the game together. Our nurses tell us they are going to stop caring for us if we keep supporting the CUBS when we should be supporting the Brewers. David loves to irritate the doctor’s and nurses by wearing his Cubs gear, watching them on T.V. and playing the song “Go Cubs Go” from his computer in the background of our room. This isn’t exactly getting us the attention we need, but its fun nonetheless.

In addition to all the excitement of the cubs opener today, we also have our much awaited move to be thrilled about. After sharing a small room for several days I couldn’t wait to have a room to ourselves. This new tower is unbelievable. It is like going from the super 8 to the Ritz Carlton of hotels. It is nice to have some space to put our things. We are now able to rock Caden without tripping over equipment and furniture and more importantly we are able to hear Caden whimper. This was our biggest concern seeing Caden doesn’t cry from his paralyzed vocal cord so sharing a room with a baby who was a screamer proved to be quite the challenge.

Caden started the day throwing up. A trend we are going to break tomorrow. We hopefully have determined it was the new blood thinning medicine that was making him sick. This afternoon he seemed to be less agitated and actually had a better appetite. So far since the move this afternoon he has kept everything down and is eating pretty well. We are looking forward to another good day tomorrow.

Love -
Melissa and David

  6. Ahhhh! You know my dad always says it makes the job a lot easier when you have the right tools, and that room looks like the right tools! With so much to cope with, having issues with your environment must have added to the stress immeasurably! And anything you can do to reduce stress, is a good thing.

    Still praying here!

LOVE the picture, even though I think he would look better in a Sox hat! Don't worry Ty has been shopping for his first Sox outfit for him to wear when he comes to our house for a sleepover!
Glad to see Melissa has her camera out again. We love starting our day reading about the Smith family, the pictures are the icing on the cake!
Keep the good news coming. You are always in our thoughts and prayers!

  8. Just got to school and headed straight for the computer. I just smiled when I saw the newest pictures...Caden certainly knows his Dad and Mom! (Lucky baby surrounded by such loving parents.) The new room looks great! Hope it's a good day for the three of you. Love and prayers from me to you. Donna

  10. Hello Caden-
Today is Tuesday April 7th and it is a gorgeous day. Why you may ask? Well, the Cubs have won their home opener and from the looks of your new dudes, I guess Daddy has already decided your fate. And The North Carolina Tar Heels have won the 2009 NCAA Basketball Championship. Some Fast Facts:
NC has won its 5th championship and has never lost a title game; they also broke the record for most points scored in a half 55.
But, the best and real news today is that you really are moving up...to the Ritz, from what I can tell. So, how do you like your new surroundings? Well, don't get to use to them for we all want you to come home very soon. And we both know the quickest way for that to happen...right? You have to keep eating, ok! Have a wonderful day Caden.
    Love you lots

  11. I am convinced that he is throwing up because you are forcing him to be a CUBS fan- he is trying to tell you something- he wants to wear a cheesehead and a polish sausage costume!!!
I am so glad to hear they rolled out the red carpet for you and you are enjoying the RITZ CARLTON. Have a great day today buddy- and keep eating and getting strong!!
    Love, Meg

  13. Kaden just tell those Brewer Fans that Cubs Fans are experienced Prayer Warriors. If the Brewer Fans were experienced maybe they would still have the Braves.
We are so happy you had a excellent move. Kaden I will pray that whimper gets more power for the weekend games with the Brewers.
