Hey all. David here from the RMH on Saturday night. Caden Marshall had an okay day today. He is inconsolable at times however those times were less then the times yesterday and yesterday was less than the day before. We hope this trend continues as when he is in pain it is very apparent. His poor little body shakes and he flails his limbs around when he is in pain. Melissa and I try to console him while trying to keep our cool at the same time. I cant imagine how Melissa did this all by herself on Wednesday when Caden Marshall was inconsolable for most of the day. I am very blessed not only to have a very strong son, but also a very strong wife. I am amazed by both of them!
The doctors still have been unable to identify the source of the issue with Caden. We still wait for cultures to grow to know the source of the infection. That being said his white blood count came back lower which means whatever it is, the battery of antibiotics they have him on are apparently working. We may actually never know what is going on with him. We just pray that whatever it is goes away and stays away.
With everything going on we failed to mention my mom, who celebrated her 37th birthday on June 4th. Happy birthday mom! We love you. Mom - now knowing the love parents have for a child and the amount of worry that goes into them, I would like to apologize to you for everything I put you through from the age of 5 (first ramp attempted (unsuccessfully)on my bicycle) through the age of 20. You are the best mom!
Also, Megan graduated from 8th grade this week. I am sorry that I am missing her party tonight as she deserves to celebrate this right of passage. Megan - I am proud of you and I love you. High School next year.!! You gave yourself a good base and I am glad you did because now it counts!
Much love to all and thank you for all the prayers. We hope to be out of the woods soon so keep it up please.
David and Melissa

So happy to hear that Caden is improving. All three Iowa Smith girls are keeping my parents up to date on his progress and they send their love. Our hearts are aching for the tough times that you have experienced and are longing for the day when you three get to be together without pain and worry on your minds. Think happy thoughts and hold that little one close....for all of us.

So glad to hear Caden is improving more each day and will God willing not be in pain too much longer during this recovery. We love you all and Pray for you. Marty & Peggy Draper
ReplyDeleteOh, Little Man, here's hoping you have a better day tomorrow. Melissa and David, I know how hard it is to try and keep a level head when pacing the floor at 4am to console crying, I know how much that is amplified when you know your child is hurting and I can only imagine how hard it must be to stay focused when your heart aches as it must for as much as Caden has endured. The love and respect you have for one another and share with us is awesome... you are a great team.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs,
Tracee
Hang in there little guy! One day closer to getting better!
ReplyDeleteWe are praying that the medications continue to work and that he improves quickly. We are also praying for his comfort--no more pain. I know that has to be hard on all of you too. Just know that you are prayed for everyday. He is such a fighter. He will be a teenager to reckon with. Wishing you all the best. We're keeping the prayers going.

Good morning Caden-
ReplyDeleteToday is Sunday June 7th and I am glad that it seems you are doing a bit better. You are such a strong little warrior and I know that you are going to come out of this stronger than ever. I also wanted you to know that your parents are also very strong individuals. The faith, hope & love that they are showing everyone, is truly amazing…your family is an inspiration to all of us. Please maintain your current level of focus and determination during this stage of your recovery…I now you can do it!
Briefly: The Red Wings made a statement last night when they beat the Penguins 5-0 and won game 5 and gave them a 3-2 advantage. They can end this series on Tuesday if they are able to beat Pittsburgh on its home ice.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals is tonight; the Lakers have won the first game and are looking to end this series quickly. The Magic will need to regroup if they hope to make this a competitive series.
Have a wonderful day Caden
Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI just want you to know that I have been reading on Caden since he was born. I feel a lot of love for him. I pray for him everyday and feel that you have been a true symbol of motherhood and a great influence on me. I recently had my second child, Autumn (3 1/2 months), and even though she is such a wonderful baby, in tough times when she cries and I can't figure out what's wrong, I remember what you're going through and realize that my tough times are miniscule. You have such amazing strength that I know loving mothers find in these times. I think about you all every day! I always tell my husband when I log into my computer, "I have to see how Caden's doing today." When my family gets together on the weekends, we always discuss how Caden is doing and how such wonderful parents he has and how lucky he is. May God be with you throughout this entire journey!
Love,
Vanessa (Land), Rob, Alexandria, and Autumn Estes
Glad to hear that each day is getting a little bit better for Caden, and for you too I imagine. My prayers are non stop for all of you. Thanks for the frequent updates that we are all waiting anxiously to read each time.
ReplyDeleteIt makes us feel a bit closer to you all.
Love, Aunt Ginny
