Last night I had to laugh as I was discussing just typical baby things with Grandma Smith and how I really didn't know any of the answers to simple baby things. David and I could tell you a lot about Caden's heart, his heart meds, etc, but the baby stuff....I decided I don't know anything. I guess learning from your mistakes is half the fun huh? Hosptial life has you focus on much "bigger" baby things like the HEART, but it is now the "smaller" things I am enjoying soooooooo much.
We have had a few people out to the house in the last few days to do intake appointments to determine if Caden will need Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Developmental Therapy. Since Caden has spent so much time on his back from his surgeries. We are still waiting for the incisions from his surgery on his chest to heal so he can do "tummy time". We konw he is a little behind but sure he will catch up once he has healed.
We also had a nurse come out to do an evaluation on Caden. Other than pulling out a loose stitch from his drainage tubes incision site Caden is doing great, growing, laughing, smiling, and cooing. He just needs to eat more!
As for David and I. We are just enjoying being back together as a family. I'm a bit sleep deprived but what new mom isn't. However, Grandma Smith came up to help out for a few days so I managed to squeeze in a few extra hours of sleep which was nice (Thanks Sue!). I made it out today to run some errands, and got to visit with some friends which was great. Tomorrow we head to a clinic appointment back in Milwaukee for Caden for a check-up.
Life is great. God is good! Thanks for the blessing you have given us.
Love -
Melissa
Hello Caden-
ReplyDeleteToday is June 25th and I hear that your parents are a bit sleep deprived these days. That’s ok, they should know that a baby is a sign from Mother Nature that they had been getting too much sleep before! I am glad to hear that you are progressing very nicely in your new home. That makes me extremely happy! There are many things that have happened on this date but these are a few things that happened to catch my eye:
In 1630 the fork was introduced to American dining by Governor Winthrop.
The Battle of the Little Bighorn —also known as Custer's Last Stand - This battle was the most famous action of the Great Sioux War and it occurred on June 25 1876, near the Little Bighorn River in the eastern Montana Territory, near what is now known as Crow Agency, Montana. This was a remarkable victory for the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne Indians, led by Sitting Bull. The U.S. Seventh Cavalry, including a column of 700 men led by George Armstrong Custer, was defeated.
And finally, back in 1947, Adidas redesigned and created a more specialized sport specific tennis shoe. The first tennis shoe was actually created back in 1931, also by Adidas.
Good night Caden
What a wonderful way to end my day. Caden's story has truly touched my life. I am so glad you are getting to experience the small things of having a baby and not having to focus on the big things. He is truly an example of how good God is.

Such a wonderful entry! I can't even imagine all what you have gone through and have such a great out look! I am learning so much from others in times of need. Thank you for your testimonies of faith to me! Glad you got to get out...saw pictures of you and Dana :)

Ha, tummy time! Let me just tell you a little secret... Jesse never did tummy time. Oh, believe me, I told everyone he did... but I'm a big fat liar. By the age of 6 months he was still able to sit upright with that gargantuan noggin and kept it up while crawling a couple of months later! I bet mine is not the only confession you'll hear! ;o)
ReplyDeleteLoving the updates as I go through "Caden withdrawal".
XO,
Tracee
Don't worry...you will learn all the "small" baby things soon enough. You've already learned that sleep deprivation is a big part baby life! LOL! Glad things are starting to get back to normal for you guys and that the little man is doing well. Now hopefully he starts to eat more soon!
ReplyDeleteKeep all the good news comin! And the pictures too!
Love,
Traci
Hi, my name is Shelley and I didn't do tummy time with my kids either. Everytime we did they threw up. I washed those dang playmats again and again and got so sick of cleaning them, that I gave up.
ReplyDeleteI think it won't be the deciding factor between Harvard and Yale!
With the sleep deprivation, I remember thinking, when we lengthened the feeding schedule, that I should have felt much more rested if I was getting a couple hours more sleep! I realized that I had been so tired, I didn't even know how tired I actually was!
I love reading your happy updates!

Glad to see things are going so well. Caden, you better eat! You could use the same threat we used on Carsyn that we are going to put a poster of Dr. Nancy in her room to watch her all the time if she doesn't start behaving. It has worked so far! We are so happy that you have been able to enjoy the normalcy of parenthood. Isn't it great!!! Hope to see you all today. We miss you around here.

I know you have less time now to blog, but it is so much fun to check on Caden, see his pictures and hear how well he is doing now. God is good, all the time. Your family is a wonderful testimony and encouragement to others. Blessings and prayers,

Welcome to the day-to-day of new mommy-hood! I can't tell you a thing about the heart but if you need anything else don't hesitate to give me a call anytime. Dean has had everything in his almost 1 year of life from reoccuring bronchitis to constipation to rashes - I would be happy to help if I can! Enjoy because with the everyday challenges the reward is a smile and a choo or in Dean's case a Growl..Let me know if you need anything!. Peggy Draper
ReplyDeleteGood morning Caden-
ReplyDeleteToday is Friday June 26th and it is a very hot, sunny, summer day.
Yesterday, a music Legend-Icon, died; Michael Jackson, 1958-2009.
Michael Joseph Jackson was born August 29, 1958, in Gary Indiana. The public first knew him when was just 4 years old and began singing with his brothers — Marlon, Jermaine, Jackie and Tito — in the Jackson 5. Among their No. 1 hits, in the late 1960’s were “I Want You Back,” “ABC” and “I’ll Be There.” After his early success with bubblegum soul, he ventured out on his own, generating innovative, explosive, unstoppable music.
Michael Jackson, defined in equal parts as the world’s greatest entertainer and perhaps its most enigmatic figure, was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Until yesterday, when his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short.
Jackson’s had 13 No. 1 one hits on the Billboard charts putting him behind only Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Mariah Carey.
His 1982 album “Thriller” — which included the blockbuster hits “Beat It,” “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” — is the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.
Have a wonderful day at home Caden
Welcome to motherhood! Don't plan on getting a lot of rest for around 21 years! You'll worry when they cough, you'll worry when they fall, you'll worry after graduation (from any level), and you'll worry when they meet their first love!! BUT, through it all you will love him and thank God you have him!
ReplyDeleteHope the examine @ Milwaukee goes well today!
Just wanted to remind you guys that I still think of you daily! I love the updates and the pictures! Hope to be able to see you guys soon!

I keep checking the blog and always happy to see the at home, good, typical baby news from the two of you. Sleep deprivation is a way of life for a while, so you might as well get used to it. We think of you often and can't wait to see Mr. Caden in person.
ReplyDeleteHi Caden,
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a good appt. in Milwaukee...you should have stopped in to see me...I had lots of pretty smiles waiting for you. Just kidding, why would you wanna come back to this place. You were here long enough, right?! I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer at home. I am still waiting to get home. You better be eating enough so you can grow up to be big and strong like your daddy. You better eat some more so that your mommy doesn't get worried about you. Well, take care little man. We will still pray that you stay strong, healthy, and happy at home.
Love your little girlfriend,
Lindsey Jo-301
