David here at 8:30PM. Caden Marshall came out of surgery at 7:45. Melissa and I got to see him very quickly as they rolled him past. He did really well today and we are very proud of him. Caden Marshall came back extubated (breathing tube removed) from the OR which is great for an early Glenn. Melissa and I talked with Dr. Tweddell who said things went well and that he is pleased with the overall result. Our boy looks beat up but overall pretty good for someone who just had his heart worked on. He is very uncomfortable right now and will be for the next couple of days. The nurses do a great job of pain management so we are counting on them to make Caden Marshall as comfortable as possible. We know they will.
Melissa and I are very grateful for the prayers as we are sure God heard and continues to hear us. We are so grateful and feel very blessed with our son and each other.

Good morning Caden-
ReplyDeleteToday is Saturday May 30th and I am glad to hear that the doctors are very pleased with how everything went during the surgery. The team of doctors that your Mom & Dad have picked for your surgeries are excellent. I am confident with their expertise and your tremendous strength that it is going to be a speedy recovery with minimal discomfort. We just need you to continue pushing forward so you can reach that ultimate goal…going “H”. I know in my heart that this will happen soon and that the nurses and surgical team will make sure that they minimize your pain.
Last night the Lakers win over the Nugetts gave them a 4-2 series win and it also marked the 16th straight time the Lakers have advanced after winning the first game of a series. The Los Angeles Lakers will represent the Western Conference, in the NBA Finals, once again. The Lakers are in the NBA Finals for the second straight year and a record 30th time overall.
The Eastern Conference participant has not yet been decided. The Orlando Magic currently has a 3-2 advantage over the Cleveland Cavaliers and will be playing game 6 tonight.
Also happening tonight is the first game of The Stanley Cup Finals; where the Pittsburgh Penguins will meet the Detroit Redwings in game 1 of this 7 game championship.
Have a wonderful day Caden
Good morning Smith family!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a restful night. I'm sure you didn't sleep a wink the past two nights! I know that emotional roller coaster ride is not one of pleasure!
I am so happy to hear that surgery went well! It was nice to read that he was already extubated (sp?) so soon after the Glen procedure! That's a step in the right direction! I'm sure Caden will continue this trend!
That was really cool that Caden was in the spotlight at the Cubs game!!
Have a nice weekend! I'll be looking forward to more good reports over the weekend! Take care!
Love and hugs!
Christine

Great news for the Smith family! God has a eye on Caden.
ReplyDeleteOur family follows Caden's progress everyday and he is always in our thoughts and prayers. Jeff and I know how helpless you feel as parents and we know the anxiety you feel. You guys are so strong and your faith and the faith of all those around you will get you through. I promise there is a light at the end. Cole is living proof. Caden is a fighter and will win this battle. He has overcome so much already. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to let us know.

David, Melissa, & Caden,
ReplyDeleteWe are so relieved and happy to have such a great report from the surgery!! I have a strong testimony that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers; and I know that He's keeping watch over little Caden.
One of my favorite quotes is by Willa Cather, "Where there is great love, there are always miracles!" I am continually amazed at the miracles that have surrounded Caden, and I know it's because of the tremendous love we all have for him!!
We love you so much and will keep you in our prayers,
Eric, Janelle, and Jackson
What an uplifting experience to see a healthy child! Caden looks so good and we all pray that his progress continues.David and Melissa, you have been a solid force and strength for his progress. I know many prayers are appreciated for Caden's success. I marvel at your stamina for obtaining the best for Caden.
ReplyDelete'Read this last night, but forgot to post after. We are so pleased that the surgery went well. 'Hope our prayers contributed to the success! I also must reiterate what Nancy said about how thankful we are for your generosity in updating the blog so frequently.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, we just got the invitation to Jamie's Sweet 16, which made us feel bittersweet, feeling really old and remembering Duck Duck Goose with silly hats and thinking you guys probably won't make it.
We are really looking forward to meeting Caden someday, and we so admire your strength, faith, and spirit!
The Beginskis
Oh man, what a scary day. I just sent you an email that expresses more of this, but just remember to keep the faith and stay optimistic. Caden is such an amazing little boy and he's teaching us all many lessons about life and how precious it is. He is absolutely a fighter and oh-so precious. We have hope and faith that he will recover and come through this with flying colors. We will continue to pray for him and for you guys, as well.
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Susie
