Hi everyone its Melissa. Although we have so much to be thankful for as Caden is now off almost all of his machines we unfortunately got some bad news today. Caden was showing poor signs of feeding so an ENT doctor scoped his throat today to find one vocal cord is paralyzed. David and I know this can happen with Hypoplastic babies since the vocal cord nerves run so close to the heart. When surgeons are operating they can accidentally stretch or cut the nerve because it is so small. What does this mean? We are optimistic that Caden will learn to compensate, but at the moment you can’t hear his cry, and is having difficulties feeding. As Caden grows there are things that can be done to compensate however there is a chance that the nerve either heals itself or grows back. Currently Caden is being fed exclusively via an NG tube for his nutrition or directly by a speech therapist. Requiring this type of feeding specialist means that it could prolong his stay in the hospital however we are hopeful it wont.
It has been an emotionally draining day today so I’m going to keep it short and we will write more tomorrow.
Love –
Melissa & David

Yesterday I took the time to really take in each moment, each finger and each toe while bathing Kevilee. I frequently find myself on autopilot just to make it through the day. When I thought of you and how much you would love to be sitting with Caden in the bathtub, in your home at that very moment, I stopped and became present once again. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, as it allows us to stop, take a breath and count our many, many blessings. I appreciate the simplicity of my life as I watch you. I hope that I can handle whatever life throws at me with as much grace and courage.
ReplyDeleteLove to you all,

Caden,
ReplyDeleteGood morning! Today is March 26, and the NCAA Tournament is starting again! There are currently 16 teams left and that is why this portion of the tournament is called the “Sweet 16”. I will let you know how our teams are doing tomorrow. However, so far your picks have been very helpful...Thanks again! Hey, I hear you had a little set-back yesterday! What kind of party did you have for your birthday? I’m thinking you may have done one too many Jello shots! In any case, this is a very minor hurdle for a strong little warrior as yourself. Just stay focused and know that everyone is pulling for you to come home as soon as humanly possible.
Have a wonderful day Caden
Dear David & Melissa,
ReplyDeleteRemember God has a plan AND he also works miracles. You named your son CADEN for a reason and he will prove he is just like his name, I have faith. And I love you all.

Thank you so much for continuing to share each milestone with us. It is a blessing to be allowed to treasure each win and commiserate with the little setbacks without feeling like we are intruding on your privacy. Please know that we are less than an hour away and would be more than happy to bring you anything you need or just hang out for an hour if it helps to take a break. Please continue to take care of each other and make sure to eat! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove,
Debbie and Jeff B.

Melissa, dad, and the gift from above Caden...
ReplyDeleteIf there is one thing that I have learned over the many years of emotionally draining illness etc. at a young age it is that ALL thinsg work together for those that love him. Be patient and allow teh peace of God to surround the very room he is in and your home. I pray peace over all of you! Stay strong and keep fighting...

It can't say that I know what or how you guys are feeling with the most recent news. What comes to mind though is that Caden is perfect, he is exactly the child God ordained for your family. Because God knows you will love & care for him best. In Psalm 139, David writes..."For you created my inmost being;you knit me together in my mothers womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." (v 13-16) God knows about this "bump in the road", He can continue to work miracles for Caden. We will keep praying!
ReplyDeleteHi David & Melissa,
ReplyDeleteUncle Rick & I have been following Caden's progress and it's great to see how well he is doing!! You are all in our thoughts and prayers!
