Hey all. David here at 3PM. Dr. Tweddell and team successfully closed up Caden Marshall’s chest this morning. We understand that everything went well however some of his “numbers” have gone up a bit. His pulse is up 20 bpm from pre-closure and his cerebral oxygenation numbers are trending downward into the low 50’s (60’s is best for neurological development). We talked with the doctors who made adjustments to Caden’s ventilator which helped his oxygenation number. Doc said that in the next 12 to 24 hours his pulse level should drop back into the 150’s. I wont get too nervous till tomorrow as the next 24 hours are critical.
It was explained that when the chest was open the heart could beat freely without restriction and now, since closing the chest, the heart is a bit constricted. Constricted with the mass and fluid that is left behind from another surgery. We look for a positive decrease in Caden’s pulse over the next 12 hours. The doctor has suggested we don’t touch Caden anymore today as to not agitate him. It is the most awesome thing to see him react to our touch and we know that he hears us however we will give him a break because we know that is what is best for him. Also I think he was getting excited watching the Marquette game today so we turned it off. I know Caden was upset yesterday when Uncle Eric’s Illini went down in the first round.
Melissa and I are drained so that may be all from us today. Please keep up your prayers because it is still too soon to call this step a win (but we are feeling good now). We will post again tomorrow hopefully telling you that Caden has successfully reached another milestone and let you know what the next “win” will be.
Very truly blessed by all of you.
David and Melissa
Sending prayers your way. I wish I could take some of the pain off of you and on to me. Can't wait to hear the next milestone Caden Marshall will defeat. Try to get some rest. Our heart is your heart. Praise be to God.
